First of all let me say I've used HRM's for years so I know how 'finicky' they tend to be. But not so with this unit! Right out of the box I used a little water on the chest strap sensors and the signal was picked up within seconds!
I will admit the only flaw is the manual. No where in it describes who to remove the panel from the wrist strap for USB mode. I had to basically go online to get more detailed instructions.
The chest strap is unobtrusive so I wear it all day.
The software is adequate although I've only used it for two days.
I will say the only flaw for me is the in-ability to see your heart rate along with the current time; you'd have to toggle in-between to view each, although you can see your 'steps' and current time; but for me the HR is more essential than knowing how many steps I took today.
I picked mine up for $39; about $50 including shipping. I may just get another for back-up in the future.
All in all, I'm satisfied and would recommend this unit, if just for it's price.
Addendum: alas after about a month with this product it's not acting right! After a run my HR usually measures 146-150 bpm; now it reads 40! (I'm no Lance Armstrong either!). I'm hoping it's just the battery (which btw should last longer than a month!) and not because of a cheap circuit board... I'll keep u posted
**well I got a good 5 months out of this unit lol...it finally 'keeled over'. The watch itself would not turn on despite the dimmed out face dial. I replaced the battery (very difficult btw) and still no go... Well in all fairness I run everyday in the desert...Afghanistan desert to be exact; so the conditions are brutal to say the least; may have something to do with it, may not...who knows...I'm done with this.
